Wapello NHS

NHS stands for National Honor Society.  NHS is founded on four pillars: Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. Wapello NHS strives to have one service project a semester as well as fundraisers throughout the year.  Wapello NHS is a self-sustaining activity so the money we raise goes toward yearly National NHS dues, induction ceremony materials (certificates, stickers, flowers) and graduation materials (cords, pins, honor cords).  Any extra funds beyond these costs are donated throughout the year to various causes.

Induction into NHS is a special privilege and an honor for students.  Students who maintain a 3.4 GPA at the beginning of Junior year will be given the opportunity to apply for induction into NHS.  Students then fill out a packet with activity and work information, provide two adult references, and participate in an interview.  Once this process is completed a panel of teachers will select students for induction based on the predetermined criteria.

NHS is active in many service projects throughout the year.  In the past years we have donated money, time, or supplies to various groups and causes.  Some of these are:

  • Blue Shirt Day - Anti-bullying Campaign
  • Can Drive for local food pantry
  • Make a Difference Day leaf raking
  • Babysitting for conferences
  • Daddy Daughter Dance
This year NHS has some new service projects planned along with some of those above, which include Pinterest Parties, craft day with elementary students near the holidays, and Minute to Win It family style.

NHS also provides Holiday Games for AAT classes before holiday break in December, helps with graduation, and provides treats for teachers during teacher Appreciation week.
